Le Fournil du Château
To enjoy delicious sourdough bread baked in a wood-fired oven, head to the Château de Puyferrat this summer!
In one of the outbuildings of this exceptional historic site, the historic bakery—with its oven dating back to 1550—has been restored and is once again in working order.
To watch the bread being placed in the oven and see the master artisan baker at work, you’ll need to be an early riser and arrive around 6 a.m. At the castle’s bakery, you’ll find excellent pastries made with churned butter, a few local artisanal specialties, unique specialty breads, and delicious traditional pies decoratedwith the famous smiley face—the baker’s signature for as long as anyone can remember.
The bakery is open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
